Kobe City Medical Center General Hospital
Director of a hospital

Yasuki Kihara

Kobe City Medical Center General Hospital has made continuous efforts to meet the diverse medical needs of its citizens throughout its more than 90 years of history. In April 2009, in order to improve patient services and more efficient hospital management, we shifted to a management form as a local independent administrative agency.

In July 2011, it was newly built and moved to its current location as a “hospital suitable for the next century” that provides high-quality medical care based on the practice of emergency medical care and team medical care. In August 2016, we established a psychiatric physical complication ward (MPU), expanded the number of operating rooms, and expanded the outpatient department. In November 2017, we integrated the Advanced Medical Center Hospital. .

Currently, the hospital has the appearance and facilities of one of Japan's leading core hospitals, with a total floor space of approximately 101,400 m2 and 768 beds, and has implemented a comprehensive medical system by organ and disease, with doctor from each department working together to provide patient-centered care, regardless of department. In ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare notation Welfare's "National Emergency Medical Center Evaluation," the hospital has been ranked number one in the nation for 10 consecutive years (from 2014 to 2023).

The three pillars of our hospital are "enhancement of emergency medical care", "enhancement of advanced medical care", and "enhancement of clinical research". I'm here.

In order to carry out substantial clinical training, it is essential to have (1) abundant cases, (2) excellent instructors, and (3) an effective training curriculum. It is designated as a training institution for Certified Physician). Our staff consists of 18 Board Certified Surgeon professors from Kyoto University University. In addition, there are about 30 cases of autopsy per year, and these numbers are the best in Kansai. In the "2021 basic clinical ability evaluation test" of the Japan Medical Education Program Promotion Organization, our intern doctor has achieved the second highest result nationwide.

Our hospital established a clinical training center in April 2012 with the aim of further enhancing our training education and guidance system. Residents belong to our center and undergo rotational training in each clinical department for two years. For example, in addition to acquiring basic medical treatment skills through training in the emergency department and General Medicine, learning the whole-body management of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), and also receiving the latest specialized training in each clinical department. I can. In addition, the Academic Research Promotion Department not only supports medical trainees in presentations at academic conferences and case reports, but also works with experts in planning clinical research, statistical analysis methods, and writing papers. In April 2016, we launched a human resource development center with the aim of developing and improving the skills of hospital staff, and in August of the same year, we expanded the training building and added a training hall, training lab, and surgical department. We have a laboratory available for use.

The training at our hospital is never easy and you will spend hard days, but I believe that the quality as a clinician will be determined in the first three years. We are eagerly waiting for the participation of those with guts who desire high-level clinical training in a favorable environment.
