On August 1, 2016, a new psychiatric somatic complication ward (8-bed closed ward) was established in our hospital. One of the features of our hospital is a 24-hour emergency system for citizens. Until now, our hospital has accepted emergency patients regardless of the presence or absence of mental illness or symptoms. treatment has become possible. Even if you have a comorbid mental illness, if you are hospitalized for physical treatment, you can actively introduce and continue psychiatric treatment. In our ward, either voluntary hospitalization, medical protection hospitalization, or emergency hospitalization is applied based on the Mental Health and Welfare Law. For this reason, even late-stage trainees who are about to begin training in psychiatry can experience treatment for all kinds of psychiatric disorders with the cooperation of various departments in the hospital, such as physical medicine, physical therapy, and the pharmacy department. We can handle many cases that are necessary to obtain a designated doctor.
Apart from the above, our department mainly provides inpatient treatment for mild to moderate depression and neurotic disorders using 7 beds in a general ward. This is an open environment, with decades of extensive experience in hospitalization aimed at therapeutic effects through medication adjustments, rest and environmental adjustments. Due to the characteristics of hospitals that provide acute care, long-term hospitalization is not possible, but it is possible to create an opportunity for symptom improvement and to establish a path for future treatment. In addition, since treatment is performed in a general ward, not a psychiatric ward, it is not based on the Mental Health and Welfare Act, and patients who are willing to be hospitalized voluntarily and are able to follow the instructions of the medical staff are eligible. As a psychiatric specialized training, you can master the treatment of mood disorders and neurotic disorders here.
Our department has a psychiatric liaison team and a dementia care team. We provide careful support for mental symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and delirium. Consultation liaison psychiatric care is one of the important areas of psychiatry in a general hospital like our hospital. I would like to work together with the staff of the Neuropsychiatry, including clinical psychologists, to conduct psychiatric clinical work so that it becomes one of the pillars that support psychiatric care in Kobe City.
In the Department of Neuropsychiatry, we focus on team activities with other occupations (nurses, pharmacists, and clinical psychologists).
Liaison is a French word that means "collaboration" or "bridge". A multidisciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, nurses, clinical psychologists, and psychiatric social workers is formed to treat mental symptoms such as delirium, anxiety, depression, and irritability associated with various physical diseases. In collaboration with doctor and nurses in charge of treatment, we provide mental care to patients.
In an aging society, many patients who are admitted to our hospital for various diseases include those with dementia. A team consisting of nurses specializing in dementia nursing, psychiatrists, pharmacists, and mental health social workers for people with dementia who are confused by sudden environmental changes or have difficulty deciding on treatment policies. will help with hospitalization and decision support.
