4. Post-departure outpatient care (fever and other symptoms after returning home)

If you become ill after traveling, it is recommended that you visit a medical institution with expertise in diagnosing and treating diseases that can cause fever and diarrhea after Travel Outpatient, such as travel medicine. Our experts are here to help.

The reason why it is recommended to visit a specialized medical institution is that the experience of treating diseases that do not exist in Japan (such as malaria and dengue fever) varies from hospital to hospital, and that diagnostic tests for some travel-related infectious diseases are not available. , it is difficult at general medical facilities (because the test is not covered by insurance), etc. At our hospital, it is always possible to conduct tests that are not covered by insurance, such as malaria rapid antigen tests and dengue virus rapid diagnostic kits, and we have an environment that allows for prompt diagnosis and treatment.

Symptoms of travel-related infectious diseases generally appear within 3 months, but if you are worried about the relationship between travel and symptoms even after 3 months have passed, please contact us.

On days when the Travel Outpatient is not held, visits during the daytime are treated as General Medicine outpatients, and after-hours visits are treated as emergency outpatients.

10. Things to be aware of

  • If you are unwell, such as having a fever of 37.5 degrees or higher, you cannot receive the vaccine.
  • Please bring your Maternal and Child Health Handbook with you at your first visit, as you will need it to create your vaccination certificate. Alternatively, take a picture of the vaccination record page of the maternal and child health handbook with a mobile phone, etc., and present it at the time of examination.
  • If you need a medical certificate in English for a chronic disease, and if you are going to another hospital, please bring your medicine notebook and test data so far. If necessary, we will refer you to your family doctor for information.
  • Some vaccines (such as the hepatitis B vaccine) require multiple doses. We recommend that you have plenty of time before your departure to see a doctor. Six months or more before departure is ideal, but a month or more allows for many vaccinations.
  • We try to create English vaccination certificates and medical certificates in English as soon as possible, but if it is necessary to refer to other hospitals for information, or if it takes time to obtain test results, we will contact you. It may take some time. As a guideline, it will be handed over in about a week after the examination. If it is urgent, please inform the attending physician directly.
