Cancer registration at our hospital ~For the improvement of cancer care~

There are two types of cancer registries: the "National Cancer Registry" for utilization and provision by the national and prefectural governments, and the "In-Hospital Cancer Registry" for accurately grasping the status of cancer treatment at hospitals. I have.
Our hospital is also registering two types of cancer in accordance with the national policy.

Purpose of Cancer Registry

Cancer registries play an extremely important role in all areas of cancer treatment, including methods for cancer prevention and early detection, and confirmation of the efficacy and safety of new treatment methods.

Information collected through registration will be used for the following purposes.

  • Providing information to the National Cancer Registry
  • National Cancer Center Cancer Control Information Center Providing information to the in-hospital cancer registry
  • Measurement of survival rate of cancer patients (follow-up survey)
  • Grasping the current state of cancer care at your facility
  • Providing materials for supporting clinical activities, research, and education
  • Preparation of materials for evaluation (statistics) of medical activities related to cancer
  • Basic materials for information disclosure to patients
What is in-hospital cancer registration?

It is a mechanism to clarify the actual state of cancer treatment by accumulating basic data of patients diagnosed with cancer as a hospital. The Act on Promotion of Cancer Registration, etc. stipulates that facilities that play an important role in cancer treatment are obligated to make efforts.
In-hospital cancer registration is carried out at each facility based on the law, and every year, after removing personal identification information such as names, it is submitted to the National Cancer Center, and the total number of medical treatments at hospitals nationwide is published as a report. It has been.
If you would like to know more about in-hospital cancer registration, please refer to the following URL for "In-hospital cancer registration".

3 benefits of in-hospital cancer registration
  1. The characteristics and issues of each hospital will be clarified, and will be used as materials for improving the quality of medical care and research.
  2. It serves as a basis for national and local governments to plan and implement cancer control measures.

Secondary use of nationally collected in-hospital cancer registry data

In-hospital cancer registry data submitted to the National Cancer Center is used not only for creating reports but also for secondary use.
(1) Examine the actual situation by performing detailed tabulation and research analysis from the data
(2) Select targets on a nationwide scale and send questionnaires from hospitals to hear their opinions
Through such activities, it is expected that the entire country will contribute to better cancer treatment and cancer control.
These secondary uses are subject to a stipulated review, but if you do not want your information to be used for secondary uses, please submit the following disclaimer. For details on data management and systems, please refer to the National Cancer Center Cancer Information Service. Please use the inquiry form as necessary.
The above is general information, but individual research will be disclosed according to the instructions of the ethics review committee of each researcher's affiliated institution.

Regarding cooperation in follow-up surveys

In order to achieve the purpose of the cancer registry, it is essential to conduct a survey (follow-up survey) on the progress after diagnosis. At our hospital, we conduct follow-up surveys of cancer patients in accordance with the Cancer Control Law. The survey method is based on the status of outpatient visits, and for those who have not been seen for a long time, we conduct follow-up surveys by referrals to other medical institutions, homes, etc., and referrals to resident cards.
Based on the Personal Information Protection Law, the surveyed information will be properly managed and will not be used for any other purpose.

Regarding the procedure when you do not agree to the secondary use of data / follow-up survey

We ask that you understand this purpose and agree to the provision of information, but if you do not agree, we will ask you to submit the following disapproval form. Even if you do not agree, there will be no disadvantage regarding medical treatment. Please note that if you do not make a request, we will treat it as if you have agreed.
In addition, these requests can be withdrawn or changed at any time later.
We will pay the utmost attention to the handling of personal information, so we ask for your understanding and cooperation.
